Escalade is a full-sized luxury SUV model produced by Chevrolet, a subsidiary of General Motors.
These models are sold by Cadillac, a luxury brand of General Motors.
It was first introduced in the model year 1999 as a competitor to Lincoln Navigator.
The other competitors to the model include Land Rover LR3, Infiniti QX56, Toyota land Cruiser and Mercedes Benz GL-Class.
First Generation (1998-2001)
The model was designed and produced based on GMC Yukon Denali model. It had the seating capacity to accommodate up to 5-passengers. First generation model was largely unsuccessful.
The 1998 edition was designed and built on the platform of General Motors GMT400. The standard engine in the model is a 5.7 liter Vortec V8 version that delivers 255 hp of power and 365 lb ft of torque.

Second Generation (2002-2006)
No Escalade was sold for the model year 2001. The second generation was totally redesigned. It was offered in either rear wheel drive or in all wheel drive.

The standard engine in the model is a 5.3 liter V8 version, while it also offers 6.0 liter V8 version as optional. It has the seating capacity to accommodate up to 8-passengers. The new features offered in this generation include StabiliTrak Stability control, 20 inch chrome wheels, tire pressure monitoring system, XM satellite radio and second row bucket seats. On star assistance system was introduced in 2005.
Third Generation (2007-Present)
The current generation Escalade gains an electric/gas hybrid model for 2009. It is an upscale version of GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Tahoe models. It is offered in station wagon form. The SUV is offered in two trim versions, the base model ESV and high level EXT.

The standard engine in the 2009 Escalade model is a 6.2 liter V8 version that delivers 403 hp of power at 5700 rpm and torque of 417 lb ft at 4300 rpm. The other engine offered as optional is a 6.0 liter OHV V8/electric model that produces 332 hp of power at 5100 rpm and torque of 300 lb ft at 4700 rpm. The available transmissions to the engines include 6-speed automatic and CVT automatic. With the help of V8 engine, the SUV model can tow up to 8300 lbs. The engine introduced in 2009 can run on E85 ethanol blended fuel. With the V8 engine, it can achieve fuel economy of 12 miles per gallon in the city limits and 19 miles per gallon on the highway roads.
